Find me @ thedailylindsey.com

I’ve moved to http://thedailylindsey.com.

After two months of blogging at thedailylindsey.wordpress.com I’ve decided to take the next step. And I’m happy to report it’s gone quite smoothly. Wooohoo! I’ve converted my wordpress.com blog over to a hosted domain site powered by wordpress.org. Man, if I can do it, ANYONE CAN. I went ahead and bought up the domain and a host through GoDaddy.com. (Got an excellent 20 percent discount while researching promo codes. Took my $92 tab down to $75.) The web site interface is going to take some time to get used to. I had to write down my log-ins and passwords because it asked me to create about four new accounts for the different services I’ve bought. Each password has different requirements before it’s accepted. I couldn’t have done it without the well-written instructions that I came across while googling many of my questions. Maggie, over at maggiewilliamswanderer.com, has come up with this very succinct and easy to understand walk through of the process. Check it out if you’re in the same boat that I was trying to navigate.

Edible Hello Kitty

The Hello Kitty cake pop is so freakin’ cute. I was digging through some blogs online and came across this cuteness on a stick!

Hello Kitty pops

The innovative baker/blogger is sharing her Hello Kitty cake pop receipe with the world. If I wasn’t so clumsy in the kitchen, I’d try it out.

Style file: Must have booties!

Urban Outfitters is having a pretty good sale on their flats right now but of course while browsing I realize I don’t want flats. I want these babies, with 3-inch heels! They are peep toe booties from We Who See, $39.99.

Picture 2The reviewers (I love that feature) say the shoes are actually pretty comfortable.

Good reads: Who is Terry Gross?

Terry Gross book

Thumbing through this book I’m trying to find out who is Terry Gross? I know of her, but who is that woman behind the voice?

The introduction to her book “All I Did Was Ask” puts on the table a glimpse into her life – it’s a lot to offer for a person that calls herself “pathologically unforthcoming.”  Who knew that as a child she had dreamed of becoming a lyricist?

I’ve always admired her and the talent she has for interviewing people while listening to her radio show Fresh Air. For me it’s usually on during a jam packed snail-paced drive from Orange County to L.A. so I’ve learned to sit back and just listen. The way she poses questions, the way she takes a subject’s personal experience and strings together a meaningful conversation… it’s an art.

Recently an interview with composer John Cage re-aired after his long-time life partner Merce Cunninham died in July. (It was hearing this interview that was the impetus behind ordering the book.)

Cage had some really interesting food for thought and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. He said

“There’s a beautiful remark of Marcel Duchamp: To reach the impossibility of transferring from one like object to another the memory imprint. And I think the trouble with memory, both from a poetic point of view, is made clear too by the remark of René Char, the French poet, that each act is virgin even the repeated one, to see things as being new rather than things that we already know before we’re experiencing them. I think this is one of the things that leads to trouble between two people when someone says of another person, I knew what she would say or I knew what he would say. I would hope that we don’t get into that frame of mind with respect to one another, hmm?”

It’s really a good reminder to keep things fresh, especially as a reporter. So I’m looking to her for a little inspiration this week.

Blueberry Brinks

Wiggity Brinks

I couldn’t resist. Sometimes I think he really knows when to ham it up for the camera.

Milkshake madness

What’s my favorite milk shake in the whole wide world?

lucky devil shake

Without missing a beat, the answer is Lucky Devils toasted pecan shake.

It’s soooo good that it’s gone before my entree is put in front of me. The drink is sweet, creamy, and toasty.  It’s a paradox how something can be so warm in flavor but cool in temperature.

If you feel guilty sipping the whole thing  or don’t want to pay $5.50 on your own, ask the waiter to split the serving between you and your dining partner. Don’t worry they’re not stingy – each glass is topped off with whip cream and pecans. NOM NOM NOMMY!

Lucky Devils is at 6613 Hollywood Blvd, in Hollywood, CA. Phone: 323-465-8259.

Style file: Miley Cyrus and Max Azria at Wal-Mart

I love it! Bought a couple $8 shirts from Miley Cyrus and Max Azria’s line for Wal-Mart and I’m not ashamed! Went to the store to buy some shampoo and was surprised to be confronted by this in the clothing section as I walked in. I can’t resist a good deal.

Miley and Max shirt

If I were a teenage girl I’d eat a lot more of her stuff up for my closet. Stuff looks super cute and the quality seems better than most of the clothes sold at Wal-Mart. I saw tops, pants, graphic tees, shoes and accessories, all priced less than $20. It is sized for the slender-type figure.

The line made its debut in stores on August 1st. She twittered: “Wally-world is so fun. I could get lost in there for hours : )”and posted a photo of her on the shoe display.

I know a lot of people can’t stand her, but I’ve got nothing but love. She’s 16 and taking full advantage of all life has to offer. Good for her!

Classify this as a guilty pleasure but Hannah Montana: The Movie will be released on August 18. The views of Tennesse are stunning, I swear. It made me miss my southern summer adventures in college.

Sleeping Brinks

Meet Brinks the Boston Terrier.

The one and only dog in my life — weeded out the rest a couple years ago if ya know what I mean ; ) He knows better than to sleep on the bed, but once in awhile he feigns ignorance.

The look in his eyes says it all.

The Botanical Building at Balboa Park is a  little world full of greenery and vibrant colors inside one of the world’s largest lath structures. Best of all – it’s free!

Good Morning Sunshine

This summer I’ve stopped waking up to an alarm clock. The abrupt loud ring of the least jarring tune is still a harsh wake-up call for me. So I’ve slept with the blinds drawn and somehow my body has learned to wake up about half an hour after the sunrises. Today I beat the sunrise and in a drowsy haze I woke up to see the sky look like this –

Sunrise 8/3/2009

I nearly turned around and went right back to sleep but then I thought to myself how often do I get to see a sunrise this pretty in my life? Not nearly enough.
